Be mysterious and unavailable to your ex; do not drop everything for your ex when your ex asks you for something or to go somewhere. Don't talk to his friends and family about how much you want your ex back. Make sure your ex has no access to what is going on in your life. Creating this aura of mysticism will make you much more attractive to your ex. You could even enhance this process by dieting and working out regularly... hit your ex with everything you've got. And you know what if it still doesn't work out then you will at least be positioned emotionally to start dating again. Confidence comes from within and it's something you can't fake.

After a decent period of time, when you can tell that your ex is more than comfortable with you, ask your ex out for dinner, or to go do something nice that you wouldn't normally ask anyone. During this time you can begin to hint that your feelings are more than friendship, and towards the end of the date or a little while afterward, you can make your move to asking your ex to date once more.
